Do we often catch ourselves feeling disappointed in our relationships?
Do we sometimes feel that the other person doesn’t act or think the way we expected?
The truth is that we often demand others to behave the way we would like them to.
We get angry at our differences and tend to want to change the people in our lives.
But people are simply like that. They differ from one another. And only when we accept this reality will we be able to build healthy and tender relationships. Love cannot exist without accepting the other’s uniqueness.
Real love does not demand. It does not impose conditions.
Real love accepts, appreciates, and trusts.
February 14th may be just another occasion to reflect on how free we are from ourselves so that we can love our people without limits or expectations.
And when we realize how essential and inevitable the other’s uniqueness truly is, love will begin to shine.
